„Galactic Syncopation“ ist Roland Maurmairs jüngste Medieninstallation, die der Künstler nach mehrjähriger Entwicklungsarbeit im Projektraum zum ersten Mal der Öffentlichkeit präsentiert. Die Arbeit bildet durch Servos gesteuertes Laserlicht in Kombination mit Swarovski-Kristallen ein Konglomerat, das auf sinnliche und poetische Art und Weise an einen Sternenhaufen erinnert.
Galactic Syncopation is Roland Maurmair’s latest media-installation. After several years of preparation the first public presentation of this work of art will take place in the „Projektraum“, Kunstraum Innsbruck. This installation represents a conglomeration of Servos steered laserlight and Swarovski crystals reminding of a cluster of stars in a sensual and poetic way.
Galactic Syncopation ist das, was Kunst auch zu sein vermag – ein semiotischer Hinweis auf etwas, ein Symbol für etwas. Im vorliegenden Fall wird eine galaktische Illusion, einer tatsächlichen Galaxis nicht unähnlich, erzeugt. Wir haben es mit einer Ansammlung künstlicher aber und physikalisch gebundener Materie zu tun, mit einer Sternenwelt, die den hypothetischen Modellen dessen was ein Stern ist und kann, sehr nahe kommt. Galactic Syncopation liefert nicht bloß eine Vorstellung von den Dynamiken der tatsächlichen Mobilität von Galaxien. Galactic Syncopation steht stellvertretend für diese: Struktur, Organisation, Bewegung, Netzwerkbildung und Zufall bilden eine Galaxie. Das Kunstobjekt Galactic Syncopation kreiert einen Bruchteil des Universums: Es bildet unter Zuhilfenahme einer überlegten Programmierung und unter Rückgriff auf Swarovskikristallen, eine von Impulsen hervorgerufene Vision eines Sternhaufens, der sich unter dem Einfluss anderer Materie stetig verändert, ohne dabei größere sofort spürbare Erschütterungen zu hinterlassen. Dennoch ist dieses kleine amorphe wie ästhetisch-eindrückliche Universum ein illustres, ein schönes Beispiel für die ewige Wiederkehr von Unvorhersehbarkeiten, genauso für die Kraft der Illusion wie Imagination.
Als Galileo Galilei 1609 als erster Mensch die Milchstraße (Galaxis) erspäht hatte, mag er ähnlich wie wir bei der Betrachtung von Galactic Syncopation, vom Schillern der Sternenmasse ins Staunen versetzt worden sein, allein mit dem Unterschied, dass Galactic Syncopation tatsächlich einer ästhetischen Scheinwahrheit entspringt, die einem überlegten Konzept des Künstlers folgt.

Galactic Syncopation is, what art might also be – a semiotic clue, symbolic for something. In this case a galactic illusion is created – similar to a real galaxy. We are confronted with an accumulation of artificial and physically bound matter, with a world of stars coming very close to the hypothetical models of what a star really is and is capable of. Galactic Syncopation not only gives an impression of dynamism of the factual mobility of galaxies, Galactic Syncopation represents them: structure, organisation, movement, networking and coincidence realize a galaxy. This work of art Galactic Syncopation creates a fraction of the universe: with the help of well designed programming and the use of Swarovski crystals it evokes a vision of a star-cluster caused by impulses, steadily changing under the influence of varying matter, without creating any major traces of perceptible tremor. This small amorphous and aesthetically pleasing and stunning universe is an illustrious and good example for the eternal perpetuity of the unpredictable, like the power of illusion and imagination.
When back in 1609 Galileo Galilei as first human being spotted the Milky Way (galaxy) he may have been as astouned by the glittering of the masses of stars as we are looking at Galactic Syncopation, the only difference being that Galactic Syncopation arises from an aesthetic fictitious reality corresponding to the artist’s conceived plan.
