Der griechische Philosoph Aristoteles bezeichnet den Menschen in einer seiner Thesen als Zóon politikón, als soziales politisches Wesen, das kurz gesagt in der Gemeinschaft seinen Lebenszweck sucht. Mit Vernunft und Sprache ausgestattet, schafft der Mensch ein Miteinander, so wäre zumindest die Grundidee davon, was wir heute als »Staat« bezeichnen. Was aber wenn Politik nicht mehr der Gemeinschaft dient? Wenn Vernunft keine Rolle mehr spielt und Sprache nicht mehr zum Miteinander führt? Wollen und können wir überhaupt jenseits der Gesellschaft sein? Laut Aristoteles ist man dann entweder ein Tier oder ein Gott – aber auch Tiere leben in Gemeinschaften, und Götter – dafür sollten wir uns nicht halten!

Diese und weitere Fragen untersuchen Evelyn Kreinecker & Roland Maurmair in ihrer Ausstellung „animal sociale“.

In the Greek Philosopher’s Aristotle theses the human being is called a zoon poitikon, a social political creature, seeking its aim of living in the community. Provided with ratio and language the human being is capable of a living together, this being the original idea of what we call a state these days. What happens however when policy no longer serves the community? When ratio no longer is important and the language does not lead to an acting with and for one another? Do we want to be and can we be beyond a community?
According to Aristotle the consequence would be, that we are an animal or a God – also animals however live in communities and Gods – well, we should not believe to be Gods!
