Die Arbeit zeigt zwei Abdrücke einer Taube, die scheinbar quer über die Graphik spaziert ist. Dabei dienten dem Künstler die Trittsiegel von Wiener Stadttauben als Vorlage. Diese Spuren wurden in Kupfer übertragen und als Prägedruck im Druckatelier Georg Egger per Handabzug produziert (jedes Blatt wurde handgerissen und von Hand gedruckt).
Inhaltlich liefert die Arbeit die ersten Spuren auf einem frischen, unberührten Planeten nach der biblische Flut. Auch der erste Vogel musste landen, bevor er mit der frohen Botschaft des Olivenzeigs den Rückflug antrat. Die Flut, ein Thema, das zahlreich in vielen mythologischen Geschichten menschlicher Kulturen zu finden ist, hat durchaus in Hinblick auf die Prognosen eines bevorstehenden Klimawandels zeitgemäße Relevanz.
„After the Flood“ verbindet die künstlerische Drucktechnik der Prägung mit Roland Maurmairs Leidenschaft des Spurenlesens. So spiegelt diese Arbeit seine interdisziplinäre Herangehensweise genauso wider, gleichsam wie es die gesellschaftsrelevante Thematik des ökologischen Flussabdrucks aufgreift.
This work shows a pigeon’s footprints seeming to have stalked over the graphic. In this case the artist used tracks of a city-pigeon as template. These tracks were transferred in copper and the graphic artist Georg Egger produced the embossing pressures per hand in his studio.
These first traces on a new and untouched planet after the great biblic flood form the contents of this work of art. Also the first bird had to arrive before it could return with the happy message in form of the twig of an olive tree. The flood being a theme of numerous mythological stories of human cultures is of absolute relevance these days taking the predictions of the oncoming climate-change into consideration.
„After the Flood“ brings together the art of printing technology of embossing with Roland Maurmair’s passion of track reading. Thus this work of art is a good example of the artist’s interdisciplinary way of working – also it shows the association with the socially relevant theme of ecological footprints.
